Cameron House Next Door

301 Sir Walter Raleigh Street, Manteo, NC 27954
(800) 279-8178

Come enjoy our lovely Roanoke Island accommodation in Manteo, North Carolina. Cameron House Next Door is the second generation of the popular Cameron House Inn that served guests for more than 20 years. That building is being turned into the private home of the owners' (Michael and Beth) daughter and her family. But four rooms will eventually hop right next door to the large white house. Currently, the Sandpiper room is the only one being rented, but we expect to have the others available by fall of 2021.

The "new" rooms will look very much like the ones from the inn since most of the furniture and carpets are simply changing location. If you've stayed with us before, you'll recognize a similar ambiance. And if you've stayed in the Sandpiper, you'll find the room now offers a coffee maker and a mini-fridge. And don't forget that lovely screened-in breezeway with the fireplace that's just for you when staying in this room. If you're new to staying with us, let us describe Cameron House Next Door.

An Outer Banks Accommodation

Manteo Accommodation

The home was built in 1903 and completely renovated and enlarged in 1999. Three rooms in the main house will be available in the fall of 2021, one downstairs and two upstairs. All of these rooms have their own private bathrooms with tub/shower combinations. Each room will be uniquely decorated and have a Keurig coffeemaker, flat screen TV with streaming services, hairdryer, luxury linens, towels and toiletries. You will have a private entrance to these three rooms and a beautiful gathering room with a fireplace, library and another flat screen TV. The entrance comes off a large wrap-around porch with rocking chairs to sit and watch the small-town goings-on of Manteo. The fourth room, the Sandpiper, is on the other end of the house in a structure that's attached to the main house by a screened-in breezeway with a fireplace, sofa and chairs. This breezeway is exclusive to this room, which also is pet-friendly.

Staying in Manteo

This puts you equidistance to Corolla to the north and Hatteras to the south, which means that visiting the attractions and beach is convenient (you can be on the beach in about 10 minutes from here). But you will find so much to do in Manteo and on Roanoke Island that you might want to just stay put. The waterfront area, with its many restaurants, shops, art galleries, watersports rentals and attractions, is literally a block away. You can stroll the boardwalk that follows the water's edge and connects you to the Marshes Lighthouse and over the bridge to Roanoke Island Festival Park. Biking and walking are favorite means of transportation in the compact downtown historic area, and it's nice to go at a pace where you can appreciate the restored houses and beautiful yards.

Roanoke Island

You will find some of the most popular Outer Banks attractions such as the NC Aquarium, the Lost Colony outdoor drama, the Elizabethan Gardens and Island Farm. If you're up for a 6-mile bike adventure, you can get to most of these places via a bike path that runs the length of a good part of the island.
But when you're ready to relax, you just can't beat sitting on the big front porch, perhaps with a glass of wine or cup of coffee, and tuning into Manteo's laid-back vibe.
